Fez and The Sahara Adventure ( 10 days )
Going into the heart of Morocco’s wild side takes determination, gumption, and some flexibility.
Days of long transport bring off-the-beaten path rewards that take leave an imprint on your soul.
Years in the making, our Wild Sahara itinerary takes travelers to Morocco’s untouched Erg Chigaga Sahara Desert region, through seemingly unchartered land, and to the unspoiled coastline of Mirleft and back to civilization with some down time in Essaouira.
Day 1: Pick up in Fez | Go to Skoura (D) (5hrs)
Today, you will be picked up in the morning in Fez and head to the Valley of Kasbahs known as Skoura.
You’ll have the afternoon to relax in this peaceful oasis before dinner is served.
Day 2: Zagora (D) (3hrs)
This morning, you are free to enjoy a walk of the oasis before heading down the Draa Valley and onward to Zagora.
Day 3: M’hamid | Erg Chigaga (L, D) (4hrs)
Today, you’ll leave from Zagora and head two hours south to the remote village of M’hamid where you’ll enjoy lunch with a local family before going off-road into Morocco’s most wild Sahara region known as Erg Chigaga.
Day 4: Erg Chigaga (D) (2hrs)
Today is dedicated to fully absorbing the desert experience.
You can meet nomadic families, trek among the dunes, and learn about life in the desert of Morocco.
Day 5: Lac Iriki | Foum Zguid | Taroudant (D) (8hrs)
Today’s long drive is both diverse and arduous.
You’ll travel three hours off road through the ‘badlands’ of Erg Chigaga, including the dry lake bed of Lac Iriki made famous by the Paris-Dakar rally.
At Foum Zguid you’ll be able to enjoy lunch before welcoming a good road that takes you through the Anti-Atlas, a UNESCO Argan-tree Bioreserve, and finally to Taroudant for the night where dinner will be served.
Day 6: Tiznit | Aglou | Mirleft (D) (5hrs)
Today, you’ll set the compass for southwest and head to Morocco’s untouched beach haven known as Mirleft.
Discover what the French have known for a long time in this continually sunny paradise : Dinner will be served this evening.
Day 7: Mirleft
You’ll have the day free in Mirleft.
One of the funnest activities here is a surf lesson on Morocco “Wild Beach” (see Extras).
Activities best arranged beforehand include surf camps, 4×4 outings, paragliding, guided walks, and exploration into unchartered territories.
Day 8: Travel to Essaouira (D) (6hrs)
The drive along the coast today is worthwhile as yo travel from Mirleft to Agadir and onward to Essaouira for the evening.
Day 9: Essaouira
You’ll have the day free in Essaouira to relax, explore the ramparts, and enjoy the craftsmen at work.
Day 10: Essaouira to Marrakech (3hrs)
Following breakfast, you’ll head back to the Red City of Marrakech and be dropped off at your hotel or riad.
